Teaching Background
I have been teaching in Australia and internationally for over thirty years. Beginning at the University of Wollongong teaching Art Theory in Creative Arts, I then moved to set up his company Theme Media, where I offered artist residencies to Australian and international artists in Antarctica and the Arctic. I also participated in residencies to Antarctica and the Arctic teaching painting and photography aboard expedition ships in the Polar regions. For the last six years, I have taught painting, drawing and printmaking to adults and teens at ArtEst art school in Sydney, Waverley Art School, Hazelhurst Arts Centre and Lane Cove Gallery. In addition to term classes I run art workshops at Bundanon Trust in the Shoalhaven and Fowlers Gap in regional NSW. I have been the resident artist at The Shore School in Sydney and PLC Croydon and participated in visiting artist programs teaching at The King's School, Abbotsleigh and Reddam House in Sydney.

PRIVATE MENTORING

Ashley offers private artist coaching and mentoring for those with a busy schedule, or who want to work outside of our scheduled classes in a one-on-one environment. The mentoring can be particularly helpful for artists in the lead up to an exhibition or to help break through a prolonged period of 'artist block'.

Online Course: Saturday Morning Zoom Class 930am-130pm

This online course is in high demand, book now for Term 4:
Saturday 930am - 130pm Saturday 25 October- Saturday 29 November $280
The class is facilitated via Zoom and begins with a one hour art lecture with open discussing looking at topics that range from art history, aesthetics, composition and the media and tools of painting. Following this students set to work on paintings and summit images of their work for a one on one discussion. Ashley utilises tools such as Photoshop and Procreate to examine source images to compare compositional, tonal and colour elements in the painting.
