Artist Statement
The process of making these paintings unifies a love of two uniquely different landscapes. The Wodi Wodi track paintings of the forests of Illawarra Escarpment located on the east coast of Australia and the arid-zone paintings of Fowlers Gap in central Australia. Geographically connected through the continent of Australia yet over 1000kms apart.
I find a connection between these two disparate places in the colour as it is expressed in flora and geological form. The radiant light of both places is tantalising. In the Illawarra the light comes at you from two directions with the ocean acting as a huge mirror throwing light under the canopy of the high escarpment forest. In the arid zone the natural ochres, lack of trees and huge expansive flood plains ensure light is permeated in every direction. The natural, inherent abstraction of both landscapes prevails.
